Samaya INSPIRE2

The lightweight, robust 3-season tent for contemplation

To mark the arrival of Samaya in the 3 seasons, Ghislain Pipers, CEO and Co-founder, shares with you the behind-the-scenes details of the Samaya INSPIRE2 design.

What does Samaya INSPIRE2 bring to the 3-season tent market?

Ghislain Pipers We've taken the essential features of the 2-person 3-season tent, with 2 doors and 2 vestibules, and added the promise of a safe, lightweight, immersive experience in nature.

Can you tell us more about this "immersive experience"?

GP The two wide openings on either side of the tent are fitted with large mosquito nets to offer a panoramic view, with no physical barrier to contemplation. We opted for large dimensions, with a length of 220 cm, for greater comfort. We chose our materials very specifically, to meet our criteria of lightness and compactness, with a weight of 1590 g and a packed volume of 4.6 L.

What does this mean in terms of technical performance?

GP The result is a level of impermeability well above market standards. For the floor, this is equivalent to 10,000 mm, or at least 3x more than what is usually found on the market. The 3-layer fabric walls offer the same waterproofing as the floor, i.e. 8x greater than market standards, while maintaining high breathability and air permeability. This is made possible by our Nanovent® technology, found on both our 4-season and 3-season tents. We were equally demanding when it came to the mechanical strength of our materials. We put the Samaya INSPIRE2 through a whole series of tests in our laboratory and in the field: traction, perforation, tearing, abrasion, etc. For the floor, for example, we opted for 70-denier PU/Silicone nylon, which offers mechanical performance some 2x higher than that normally found on this type of tent.

Attention to detail is also a hallmark of Samaya. In the case of Samaya INSPIRE2, where is it particularly evident?

GP We can't mention them all! I think it's important to mention our removable vestibules and light pockets. The vestibules are zipped onto the tent to add versatility and comfort, without compromising on waterproofing. By removing one vestibule, you can admire the sunset, and by removing the second, you can enjoy the sunrise! We've also included "light pockets" at both inner ends of the Samaya INSPIRE2, so that the light from the headlamp can be diffused evenly throughout the interior of the tent, making bivouac life more comfortable and enjoyable. We tested a whole range of different colors, in order to find the specific fabric that best diffused the light. If you're interested to the details of this detail "We've added small patches to the corners of each pocket to secure them and ensure their durability. Obsession with detail is part of Samaya's DNA. I could talk about the details of the Samaya INSPIRE2 for hours!
