FIELD TEST FOR 'CLIMBING' EQUIPMENT

Since its creation in 2018, Samaya has focused on designing ultra-technical, lightweight tents to accompany users on their mountain itineraries. Today, Samaya is diversifying its product range with products dedicated to climbing, always with the same desire to best serve users in their experiences.

Climbing is a demanding discipline that requires absolutely reliable equipment. That's why our team and the athletes of the Samaya Family are mobilized to carry out exhaustive field tests, in addition to laboratory simulations.

Once the first prototypes of the long-track storage bag had been produced, the Research and Development team mobilized to carry out full-scale tests in the field. For several months prior to its launch, the product was fine-tuned by going back and forth between the cliffs and the workshop in Annecy.

Arriving at the foot of the face, Ghislain Pipers, co-founder of Samaya and a former climbing athlete, and Adrien Guillon, Head of Product Development and Marketing, roped up and took with them what would become the Samaya BELAY20. They chose a long route of several pitches in 8a max, in order to test several of the product's properties: resistance to friction and lightness, as well as practicality and comfort of use.

Once back down the mountain, Ghislain and Adrien share their experience with us.

How is field testing an important step in the product design process?
Ghislain Pipers: Field testing, carried out in-house by our team, is one of the backbones of our commitment to quality. They embody the spirit of our company, where passion and innovation come together.

You're developing a new range of products dedicated to climbing. What does this mean for Samaya ?
GP : Combining the most cutting-edge innovation possible with the tradition of French craftsmanship is an important focus for Samaya. The development of French know-how has been one of our priorities since the creation of Samaya. We're very proud to be able to showcase it in this new range of products optimized for climbing enthusiasts.

Your new climbing bags are 100% Made in France. Can you tell us more about them?
Adrien Guillon: Our climbing bags are designed, manufactured and tested in France. Our aim is to incorporate attention to detail at every stage. This internal approach enables us to guarantee the quality, performance and safety of our products, while at the same time emphasizing our commitment to "Made in France", as our storage bag production line is located in Annecy, on our premises. By carrying out our tests on site, we control the entire product chain, from design to manufacture.

Following this full-scale test, what are your impressions and feelings about the product?
AG : We've come to the same conclusions as Jo Crison, the Samaya Family athlete who supported us in the development of this product. After extensive field testing, the Samaya BELAY20 is "the ideal bag for storing and always having at hand the things you need for the day", according to Jo. "Placed at the top of the hauling bag, it's the bag that will be taken out and hung up quickly once you've reached the belay, so that the essentials are always at hand. With the Equipes Nationales d'alpinisme and the Roc Aventure Programme, the Samaya BELAY20 has also been used as a back-up hauling bag during openings, to carry equipment or supply the leader during a pitch. Its volume, handles and strength were perfect for this purpose.
