SAMAYA x LAFUMA
OPERATION MONTAGNE RESPONSABLE 2024

Samaya is proud to have renewed its support for "Opération Montagne Responsable", which took place on June 15 and 16, 2024 at Les 7 Laux. Lafuma succeeded in turning this flagship event into an unmissable outdoor festival. Madeleine Jay, Marketing Manager at Lafuma, tells us about the essence of this project.
"Opération Montagne Responsable" is gaining momentum year after year. What is the aim of the event, and what messages would you like to get across over the weekend?
Madeleine Jay: The primary aim of Opération Montagne Responsable is to take collective action and collect garbage in the mountains. That's how the event was originally conceived, back in 2007. But for this 17th edition, we wanted to add a program of conferences, round-table discussions, film screenings, discussions and workshops to the now customary waste collection, to make it a genuine outdoor festival. Today, the objectives of this initiative are to meet people, to inspire them through adventure stories and testimonials, to take collective action in favor of the mountains, and to have a good time, under the banner of sharing.

How did you imbue the event with these values?
MJ: The diversity of activities on the theme of responsible outdoor living really helped to spread these messages and values to the participants, who took to the game with gusto. The capricious weather on the first day didn't dampen their spirits, and they took part in all the workshops on offer: sewing, film screenings, educational walks. The highlight of the day was the round table discussion on "How to give meaning to one's outdoor adventures? "around which Laurianne Plaçais (ultra-cycling world champion and bikepackeuse), Loic and Benjamin from Mode Avion (Annecy-Shanghai on foot from next September), Guillaume de Koudlansky de Lustrac (linking France's 300 ski resorts by bike to explore their future) and Jérémy Bigé (2,000 kilometers on foot from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan) shared their experiences and exchanged views with a very attentive audience, who left with dreams in their heads and grist to grind to question their own relationship to adventure. The more adventurous participants gathered around the fire and then at base camp for the night. After a cool bivouac on Sunday morning, the rain gave way to bright sunshine, which warmed up the participants in the garbage collection, who were not idle: three hours of walking and 254.2 kilograms of garbage extracted from the 7 Laux mountains.

Why did you choose Samaya as a partner and a vehicle for your values?
MJ: Samaya is a brand renowned for its quality and durability. We wanted to offer our participants the best conditions to try out the bivouac experience, sometimes for the first time. There's also a proximity dimension, since Samaya and Lafuma are two brands that are geographically close to each other. Our mantra at Lafuma is "Share your nature". It's an invitation to share our outdoors and make tomorrow's memories today. Lafuma puts the emphasis on experience rather than performance, and the bivouac dimension fits completely into this philosophy. The Samaya bivouac offers a break from our daily lives and allows us to share a moment in nature, unusual for some.
