SAMAYA INSPIRE2
MATERIALS AND DESIGN STANDARDS

On the occasion of Samaya 's entry into the 3 seasons, Ghislain Pipers, CEO and co-founder of the brand, reveals the secrets behind the design of the Samaya INSPIRE2, focusing on the respect of Samaya standards and the scrupulous choice of materials.
Entering the world of 3-season tents means different constraints to those of 4-season tents. How does Samaya INSPIRE2 fit into the product range?
Ghislain Pipers: We absolutely wanted the Samaya INSPIRE2 to be totally optimized for 3-season use, just as we have optimized our tents designed for 4-season use. To design the Samaya INSPIRE2, we reused the basics and standards of the ALPINE range, since this tent is part of it. We came up with a hybrid design, half single-wall, half double-wall, to cope with higher temperatures rather than dry cold. For the single-wall part, we used our Nanovent® membrane. The membrane is integrated into the same 7-denier technical fabric as the ALPINE range of 4-season tents, raising the technical standards of the 3-season market.
What are your design standards for Samaya INSPIRE2?

GP : This 3-layer fabric offers high breathability and air permeability. Its waterproofness is 10,000 mm water column, well above the market standard of 1,200-1,500 mm water column. It was very important for us to have a high level of waterproof safety, and this is what sums up our level of technicality for the 3-season, which some might consider 4-season. Our validation standards also include wind resistance, snow weight resistance and thermal comfort.

What about the choice of materials for the floor?
GP : In terms of floor materials, it's different from what you'd find in a 4-season tent. On this tent, the aim is not to be as light as possible, but to be more durable and resistant over time. The floor is 70 denier, with a waterproofing level of 10,000 mm of water column, a little less than on 4-season tents, but still well above market standards, which are set at a maximum of 3,000 mm of water column.
What about the rest of the tent?
GP: Guylines are made of Dyneema® so that they are not subject to deformation by the force of the wind, thus maintaining an unchanged interior volume, a vital criterion for comfort in the tent. The bottoms of the sleeves are reinforced, with Cordura corners to prolong the life of the equipment. Finally, the footprint is there to add comfort rather than resistance, as the ground is already very resistant. Its shape, matching that of the Samaya INSPIRE2 in its configuration with the two vestibules, enables equipment to be stored clean and dry, without being directly in the tent.
